Yellow Weaver Finches: An Overview

Weaver finches, and Yellow weavers in particular, are often known as "weaver birds" because of the extremely complex nests built by the male birds to try and attract females. What is interesting about Yellow weavers is that they tend to live in colonies, unlike many other birds which simply flock together regularly. Instead, the male weavers will build their nests together, working with each other and placing multiple nests on the same branch. This can result in an interesting display when female weavers are around, since they'll all attempt to compete for the same female's attention!
There are places where Yellow weavers may be seen in captivity, such as the Paradise Bird Aviary or Paradise Earth, and because the nests aren't typically built too high off the ground, visitors can see the mass of nests above in the tree branches. Yellow weaver nest materials vary significantly, as they tend to be skilled enough to use whatever is available to build their elaborate homes. Anything from leaf fibers, grass, and twigs are used, and in some cases, weavers will actually create enormous messy-looking stick nests that have smaller, circular woven nests inside. Some varieties of Yellow weaver in Africa will actually build apartment nests, where up to 300 weaver couples will have their own spherical rooms that they enter through the bottom of a massive apartment-building nest.
Weaver finches are typically found in tropical areas of Asia, Australia and sub-Saharan Africa, and Yellow weavers males tend to be polygamous, mating with up to four females during the same breeding season that runs from May to September. Most of the courtship rituals are very elaborate, consisting of repeated loud noises, detailed dances and flight routines, and generally gregarious behavior!
After mating, a female weaver clutch tends to be around 2 to 4 eggs, and unlike many other bird species, the male Yellow weaver doesn't spend time incubating the eggs. The hatching period should come within 14-15 days after the eggs are laid.
In terms of keeping a Yellow weaver for a pet, they can be kept as cage birds in the home, however their excessive noise and energetic behavior can be distracting for people looking for a quieter and more sedentary pet. They will eat insects and tropical fruit, and they should easily become familiar with their handlers. However, any Yellow weaver that is kept in the home will need to have been bred in captivity, as bringing a wild weaver into your home is both illegal and traumatizing for the bird itself.

Your Business Or Your Life

When you run your own business you are your own master and your own slave.
There are always more things to do than you have the time or money to manage. How you are able to cope with this situation determines whether you have a chance of becoming a successful business owner.
Two opposing styles cause the most problems. One is doing everything your master demands of you. The other is rebelling against these demands and abusing your freedom.
Renee is her own slave. She works over eighty hours a week and eats, breathes and sleeps her business. She is determined to get every single item on her to do list completed. She
*attends several networking functions every week,
*collects business cards,
*follows up with letters about her business,
*makes all necessary phone calls,
*and does her paperwork in the middle of the night.
Customers are delighted with her services, and her business seems to be thriving, but she isn't. She is "losing it!" She is exhausted and burned out. She keeps promising her husband and children that she will take time off, but whenever she does, all she can do is sleep.
Six months after she started her business, her chronic sinus infection became so bad that her doctor suggested surgery.

Allison decided that it made sense to run her business from her home. She dutifully prepared a business plan under the guidance of her mentor. She, too, has a long to do list.
However, Allison has trouble getting started in the morning. She loves to linger over coffee, read the newspaper and do a morning exercise class. About eleven she reviews her list and gets to work.
She chooses the easy items so that she can get them out of the way. After a lunch break, and an extended phone conversation with a friend, she gets back to work. Just as she is really getting warmed up, the children arrive home from school and demand her attention.
Allison wonders why her business is getting off to such a slow start, and her savings are running out.
Renee and Allison each need to borrow some elements of the other's style.
Renee has created so much structure for herself that she almost literally has no room to breathe. She does not "have a life," only a business, and her body/mind system is breaking down under the strain. She needs to learn to prioritize and include her own personal and family needs on her to do list.
On the other hand, Allison treasures the life she is enjoying so much that she is unwilling to sacrifice very much of it to do the work necessary to make her business successful. She needs to follow the structure of her to do list and not abandon it each time something more enticing comes along.
Making these changes may be emotionally challenging for each of them. Renee derives much of her self-esteem from producing superb results, and Allison derives her satisfaction from not allowing anyone to tell her what to do, not even herself.
They will both need to reevaluate their priorities, and find a way to feel satisfied and happy with doing things differently. They will probably need friends, coaches, or support groups to help them sustain the necessary changes.
If you are or intend to become a business owner, you will need to steer a course between these extremes in order to have a business and have a life.

Creativity and Passion - Fancy Footwork

What is the one thing a girl would still hoard after buying two closets full of them? SHOES! Yes, there are many among us who hold a penchant for these sweet things that are made for walking! It's in your blood, ladies. Shoes have been told to show sexiness in women since a high-heeled shoe arches the foot perfectly which will pretty much resemble the curves of a woman's body.
No wonder those Chinese guys, during the ancient times, would go for girls with lotus feet. Luckily, some fashion genius invented a shoe with this whole new part of today's shoe the heel. This simply means you don't need to break any bone on your foot from bending them in order to perfect this whole sexy arched foot thing just to lure some weird guy in. And so high are those heels, indeed. Be it a pair of sexy heels or chic flats, here are some of the shoes you'd love to be seen in a particular mood.
Ballet flats or Doll shoes wear these whenever you are feeling the girl power and want to show the gracefulness and daintiness of a woman.
Flip-flops perfect for the summer since it spells a happy and laid-back vibe. Besides flip-flops, in today's generation, are already recognized by the high society. Heck, you can even wear them during formal gatherings and I certainly don't mean the ones that you have to wear an evening gown just to get in.
Stilettos shows that the wearer is both sexy and mature at the same time. Consider wearing them with mini-skirts. This will create a slimming effect, especially on your leg
Pumps - lends a corporate appeal and it will definitely boost your confidence level notches higher.
Boots - a slouchy suede pair spells carefree chic, but if they come in patent leather, it could mean that the wearer is sizzling hot.
Thongs - just like its other meaning, it gives off a whole new sensual vibe.
Wedges - it adds a cozy feel to the ensemble, plus it's super comfortable. The strappy kind would look best in Sunday dresses or skirts with flowery pattern
Kitten heels - feels oh so comfy and the heel makes it look really sexy.
Sneakers - whether you're aiming for a rocker or a girl-next-door look, it just almost automatically gives off a relaxed feel.
Platforms - no, not the Spice Girls kind. It's the "it" shoe this season (aside from the flip-flops) since it is both comfortable and complete with the whole arched foot concept. It spells s-e-x-y.
Rubber shoes/trainers - ugh! Need I say more? Something you really shouldn't wear with any going-out outfit, unless you're actually going out to the gym.

Are You Tracking Your Advertising Investments?

Would you trust a financial advisor that was not able to track your investments and tell you which ones were doing well and which ones should be reconsidered? I bet you wouldn't. But I would also bet that there are a lot of real estate agents out there that are doing the same thing with their own money. Every piece of advertising and marketing that is sent out, posted and published is an investment. It's an investment in your business, an investment towards future profits. So why would you run ad campaigns and not be able to track which ones are doing well for you and which ones should be reconsidered?
Real estate advertising takes a multi - medium approach. Most agents will advertise in newspapers, Homes magazines, with postcards, property signs, etc. One way to see which advertising is generating the most response is to track the number of calls coming in from those ads. You could keep a tally by asking every person that calls you what ad they are calling from. However, this approach has draw backs. First of all, it disrupts the natural flow of any conversation and rapport that you are trying to establish with the caller. Secondly, most people won't remember where they saw the ad or picked up your number so the information may not be reliable.
A much easier and dependable way to track your advertising dollars is to have the tracking be automated. This can be accomplished with a phone number with multiple extensions that can be applied to each ad. Here is an example. Say you are advertising a property on 123 Elm Street. To get maximum exposure for the listing you are going all out and posting an ad in the newspaper, having postcards printed, you are highlighting the property on your website, having full color brochures available at the location and providing a toll free number on your sign rider for people to get information.
With an ad tracking toll free number, each of these ads can have a different extension yet the same information about the property on 123 Elm Street will be in each one. This makes figuring out which ads are good investments a no-brainer. Ad tracking toll free number systems will generate reports for you daily, weekly, monthly, etc. This allows you to concentrate on the leads coming in while the system gathers the data and puts it together for you to evaluate your advertising investment
To get the widest possible exposure for advertising and property listings, it is often necessary for real estate agents to throw a wide net. This is a good strategy if you can then streamline and focus your advertising on what works the best. You wouldn't trust your money with a financial advisor who couldn't track your investments. Why would you do the same thing with your advertising dollars?

Love Your Mouth! Tips On Taking Care Of Your Teeth And Gums

Did you know that not taking proper care of your teeth and gums can actually have a harmful affect on the rest of your body? Having healthy teeth and gums will help to keep your bones strong, your immune system running at top-notch capacity, and can actually help to prevent certain forms of tongue and gum cancers! Here are a few tips on how you can ensure you keep your teeth and gums healthy and fully functional, well into your older years!
1) Brush Twice a Day!
Don't let busyness get in the way of clean teeth! Brush after breakfast in the morning, and then before you go to bed at night. Take a portable music player into the bathroom with you, and brush for the duration of about one song, which tends to be around three minutes. Make sure you also gently brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth to get rid of any potential bacteria that may be trying to lurk there!
2) Floss Once a Day!
The best time to do this is probably before you head to sleep at night, since you'll be less rushed for time. Push the floss gently into place between each set of teeth, and move it back and forth a few times. Then, make a curve with the floss and slide it up and down the edge of each tooth, ensuring that all surfaces get cleaned.
3) Make Healthy Choices
When it comes to personal nutrition, the health of your teeth is effected by the things you put in your mouth. Since cutting out all sugars is an unreasonable goal, try eating more fruits and snacks with natural sugars, or decide to only consume processed sugars at mealtimes. Snacking on things like veggies and yogurt between meals is a better choice for your all around health anyway, so making it a part of your daily dental regimen will do double health duty!
4) Visit Your Dentist
This should be a given! As a certified professional, your dentist can make sure your teeth and gums stay healthy for years to come, and he'll be able to catch any issues that arise between visits. To avoid painful dental procedures like root canals down the line, follow these simple guidelines for healthy teeth and gums, and visit your dentist just to make sure no additional complications have the chance to develop!
You'll only ever get one set of teeth in this world, so take care of the teeth you have!

The Amazing Natural Solution For Acne

While most forms of acne are merely troublesome or embarrassing, there are some forms of acne that can lead to scarring and pitting of the skin. While it's easy to find acne treatments, finding the just the right treatment or treatment product for you is what's important. Natural treatment methods are cheaper and always a better choice for acne due to less exposure to drugs and chemical-laden acne products.
Acne vulgaris is most commonly experienced around puberty, typically of the face, shoulders and chest. Baby acne is a rash seen on the cheeks, chin, and forehead of infants. Acne rosacea is a red rash predominantly on the face. Most pimples are found on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders.
Doctors think certain factors might cause or contribute to acne including hormone increases in teenage years, hormone changes in pregnancy, starting or stopping birth control pills, heredity, medicines and greasy make-up. Understanding that hormones may have some influence on the cause of acne is still being researched. New studies show that during times of high emotional stress, such as during exam time in high school, there are more acne breakouts so are stress hormones the culprits?
If you're going to buy acne products, it's much more worth your while to buy acne-treating products that work against current pimples and prevent the occurrence of new ones. Use only products that have natural ingredients or try to use fewer products to allow your skin to heal naturally. Since the latest research indicates a connection between stress and acne, make an effort to cut down on stress. any way you can.
If you wear make-up choose it carefully it should be oil free. Try relaxation techniques to reduce stress, including meditation and yoga breathing exercises. Acne prone, sensitive skin can get irritated by using astringents, skin toners, rubbing alcohol, facial masks, make-up and certain hair care product
When you wash your face use a soft touch, taking care not to rub or scrub your skin. Make sure not to use hot water on your face, always use lukewarm water. Use baking soda on a test area carefully for exfoliation, if you feel you need it.
For the best acne treatment, which has worked for many, apply virgin coconut oil to the area daily try it on a small test area for a day or two first. A skin specialist in New York is using the new red light-blue light combination therapy to treat severe cases of acne successfully ask your skin doctor or dermatologist if he's familiar with it. Any makeup you use should list on the label non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic.
Raw apple cider vinegar application to the skin is a cheap, alternative acne treatment that has worked for many adults, teens and children with acne, zits, pimples, or blemishes. You want to avoid squeezing, pinching, picking or popping your pimples because it can cause scars or leave dark spots on your skin.
People with skin disorders such as acne, rosacea, and psoriasis often suffer from constipation if you are, make sure you're drinking lots of water every day and add more natural fiber from raw fruits to your diet. In any case, no matter what skin or acne treatment you choose, whether it's chemical, drugs, alternative, or natural methods, changing your diet alone will be the best treatment you can do for your acne and you'll achieve overall good health in the process. Whether you eat a natural diet of living fruits and vegetables or eat dead junk food, what you eat may have a direct or indirect affect on the male hormones which may or may not play some part in acne.
Besides external acne treatment it's even more important to work from the inside out too. Drink lots and lots of pure, filtered water every day.
The next time you want to have a snack, instead of junk food, help your skin - have an apple, orange, peach, pear, banana, plum, berries or any other fruit. Good nutrition will help your skin from the inside out. The two most common digestive concerns that affect your skin are not enough water and not enough fiber.
Good clear skin is often a reflection of a good digestive system. Get plenty of sunshine on your arms and legs sunshine triggers the production of Vitamin D3 which is essential to having healthy skin.
Be assured, scientists are constantly looking at new non-invasive ways to treat acne. With cheap, safe, simple, natural, effective, alternative home treatments for acne and pimples, your skin should be well on its way to recovery. And whatever you do, stop wasting your money buying hundreds of dollars in acne skin care treatments, find cheaper natural methods.

Pros And Cons Of Repairing Your Own Vehicle

Having reliable transportation is something that is important of you lead a busy lifestyle. Having your vehicle repaired by a professional can take time and plenty of money from your budget. There are some pros and cons to repairing your own vehicle. Of course if you known a great deal about vehicles then you are already half way there.
Being able to properly diagnose the problem is important. Otherwise you will invest too much time and money guessing until you solve the problem. In addition, you can cause more damage to your vehicle if you don't repair it properly, and that can be an additional expense for you.
Have you ever taken your vehicle in for an oil change and when you pick it up they give you a whole list of things that are wrong with your vehicle? This is the concept that keeps me from taking my vehicle in for anything unless I absolutely have to. When you do the repairs on your own you know exactly what had to be repaired and the cost of the items to take care of it.
It generally isn't the cost of the parts to repair your vehicle that are expensive it is the cost of the labor involved in doing the work. You will save a great deal of money if you can do it on your own. If you repair your own vehicle you will know that you purchased quality parts for it. However, some of these parts require special tools that you have to use to put the part on. In some cases that particular tool can end up costing you more than the part.
Safety is a big concern you need to consider in regards to repairing your own vehicle. You can get burned, cut, or even be in the way of your vehicle if you don't have it properly staged before you begin working on it. Certified mechanics have the equipment and the knowledge to prevent those types of scenarios from happening. If you decide to repair your own vehicle make sure you have someone else around to spot you.
If your vehicle is under any type of warranty, check with the manufacturer before you attempt to repair it on your own. In some cases this can void the remaining warranty on the vehicle and that could cost you plenty of money in the long run. It can be time consuming and frustrating to repair your own vehicle so make sure you carefully weight the decision to do so before you start.

Kids Toys For Different Age Groups

There are so many toys for kids on the market these days it's difficult making the right choice. At least it can be narrowed down a bit now, as a lot of toys come in age groups, the shops are also helping by having boys and girls sections, even board games and jigsaw puzzles can be found separate. There are now some shops that only sell jigsaw puzzles, and the choice is immense.
Okay let's have a look at some of the age groups, and a choice selection of what's on offer
0-6 Months Mobiles (these hang on the cot) buggy activity centre, activity mats, cloth books, chime balls, teddy bears (check warnings about eyes etc). Of course there's the usual rattles, musical teether
6-12 Months. Stacking cups, sit and ride boats and cars, baby walkers, activity centres, rocking horses, baby swing for the garden.
1-2 Years. Shape sorting activity games, tabletop sandpits, cars, trains, planes, fairytale castles, workshops with plastic tools, little kitchens and supermarket
2-3 Years. Tricycles, V-Tech alphabet desk, scooter, friction movement toys, shape sorters, dolls and dolls prams, Duplo bricks and character
3-4 Years. Dolls houses, swings, slides, bubble makers, books, Lego, art centres, drum kits, keyboards, guitars, cash register with plastic money, toy soldier
4+ Years. Workbench (to look like dad's) tabletop cooker, play tables, toy digital cameras and CD players that actually work, etch a sketch, magnetic letters, play houses and play tents, bikes, skateboards, roller skates, spirograph. The list is endles
One of the best shops to go to for babies and toddlers toys, is The Early Learning Centre, the kids can play while you browse.
Kids and grown ups all love the old classics, especially train sets and Scalextric, these can be built on and added to and last for many years, a lot of been handed down over the generations, and some have sold for quite a lot of money at auctions, there are collectors of all ages. Also worth saving are Matchbox and Corgi cars, especially the boxes, also Airfix model planes, which you build and paint.
Rocking horses are very hard to get hold of these days, and can be very expensive, try avoiding hand made ones as they sell for hundreds of pounds. Be careful with plastic ones, as they tend to snap with time and then you get very sharp edges. The first thing that tends to go with the plastic ones is the saddle.

Many doctors and scientists believe that many cancers could be prevented with a good diet. Here are a few foods that have been shown to decrease the incidence of cancer.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are loaded with vitamin C. They also contain lycopene, which may explain a recent popular Italian study finding that people who ate raw tomatoes at least seven times per week halved their risk of several cancers as compared to those who ate tomatoes no more than once a week.
Tomatoes are also rich in coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid, which hook onto nitric oxides in the foods we eat and drive them out of the body before they can form cancer-causing chemicals called notrosamines. Tomatoes and broccoli together have been shown to decrease the growth of tumors in prostate cancer.
Some controversy exists regarding the effects of tomatoes on reducing the risk for cancer as recent research in the May, 2007 issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention showed that lycopene did not prevent cancer of the prostate. In fact the study also showed that beta carotene was associated with more aggressive prostate cancer. So you can see there are conflicting results regarding tomatoes and cancer.
Oranges and Lemons
Oranges and lemons contain limonene which raises level of naturally occurring enzymes thought to break down carcinogens and stimulate cancer-killing immune cells. Citrus fruits also contain glucarase, which inactivates carcinogens. One study showed that limonene caused regression of tumors in breast cancer. (1)
Grapes and Raspberries
Grapes and raspberries contain ellagic acid which blocks the body's production of enzymes used by cancer cells. Apples may get prime billing in folklore, but researchers say grapes are packed with chemicals such as phenols and antioxidants that may prevent blood clots. And a natural fungicide found in grapes called reveratrol slows the buildup of LDL cholesterol.
Garlic and Onions
In China, people who eat large amounts of garlic and onions cut their risk of stomach caner by as much as 40%. A study published in the January, 1994 issue of The American Journal of Epidemiology examined the diets of more than 41,000 women in Iowa and showed that those who added garlic to their diet at least once per week reduced their risk of colon cancer by 35%. The chemical thought to be responsible for the effects of garlic and onions is allium.
Chili Peppers
Chili peppers contain capsaicin. Capsaicin may neutralize the carcinogenic effect of cancer causing nitrosamines. It may also block the carcinogens in cigarette smoke from locking onto DNA. The hotter the pepper the more capsaicin it contains.
Soybeans
Soybeans are rich in a chemical called genistein. Genistein fights cancer in several ways. One way is that it looks like estrogen and occupies the binding sites for estrogen. It also may prevent small blood vessels from forming around tumors.
Broccoli and Cabbage
These vegetables contain enzymes and indoles. Indoles affect the metabolism of estrogen, prompting the body to make benign forms of the hormone that inhibits the growth of breast cancer.
The American diet which is so high in fats, meats and dairy products is in dire need of an overhaul. Adding or increasing the amounts of these foods is an important step in reducing the risk of cancer.

Demystifying an SUV Safety Report: Are Rollovers a Threat?

When it comes to SUV rollovers, most people commonly approach them in one of two ways, either they are worried about the danger of rollover every time they get into an SUV or they brush it off as a myth, believing that SUV rollovers are only as common as any other vehicle rolling over. The truth, however, is somewhere in between these two trains of thought. Riding in an SUV isnt a death sentence as long as the driver is cautious and follows all traffic rules, but at the same time, Sport Utility Vehicles do tend to rollover more readily than other vehicles.
SUV rollovers are a safety issue you must understand if you aren't aware, you can't protect yourself and your passengers, whether they be co-workers riding with you on a commute to work or your children in the backseat heading to soccer practice. The most common and easy way to learn about your particular SUV and the rate of rollover is to read the safety report. However, these reports can be a bit intimidating, presenting you with lots of figures and scientific data, so learning exactly how to read the report is crucial.
The first rollover reports appeared by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in early 2001. Of course, these reports were clouded in controversy, as not every SUV performed well. Companies such as General Motors went on the record as saying that the reports are misleading to consumers, which may have a shade of truth to it, since most people don't accurately know how to read the entire report.
The most important part of the SUV rollover report is the SSF, which stands for Static Stability Factor. If you majored in physics in college, you probably are nodding your head, but for the rest of us, let me put it into simpler terms SSF is reports how top-heavy your SUV is. Imagine putting a heavy basket of fruit on top of your head, as you'd try to walk, you'd feel unstable, like you were going to topple over, right? Top heavy means an SUV will be more likely to topple over as well, and so SUV rollovers will be more common.
SSF is a number computed by measuring the center of gravity on the SUV, which is largely due to the track width. Track width is just a fancy way of saying the distance between the tires, and the back tires are always used to keep everyone's report consistent. Go back to imagining yourself with a basket on your head.
Imagine the result if you if you stand with your feet together versus if you stand with your feet a shoulder width's apart. You'll definitely feel more stability with your feet apart, right? The same is true in SUV rollover reports the farther the tires (feet) are from one another, the more stable the SUV will be and the less likely for SUV rollovers to happen.
In theory, this is a perfect way to determine how likely your SUV is to rollover. That said, there are things that your SUV rollover report isn't telling you. For instance, the vast majority of SUV rollovers occur when the driver accidentally (or purposely) drives off of the road and a wheel of the SUV hits a ditch, bump, curb, or other change.
The speed you are traveling also makes a difference, and a reaction to running off the road can play into the rollover as well. Would you slam on your brakes or pump the pedal? Would you jerk the wheel to gain control or try to keep steady, would you shift gears? Each of these factors in your own personal situation will help to determine if you will be involved in a rollover or not.
Also, one must take into consideration other safety features of an SUV before buying. When compared to all other vehicles, SUVs are, hands down, the safest in a collision due to their size and build. Use your common sense if you are worried about SUV rollovers. Death occurs largely do to the roof crushing, so of course a less stable roof, found if the roof is removable or has a sunroof, will be more dangerous if you actually get into a rollover situation.
That doesn't mean that a rollover report is senseless. The rollover report's SSF should weigh in your mind at least a bit, and can help you to decide between two vehicles if you are truly on the fence. Drive safely and SUV rollovers should never be an issue in the first place. All the safety reports in the world can't make up for a bad driver.

Seven SUV Rollover Tips

SUVs are notoriously known in the automobile industry for being quick to get into rollover accidents. While this is not a totally unfounded claim, it is also important to note that SUV rollovers typically don't happen because of manufacturer defects or design flaws' they happen because drivers are dangerous in a vehicle that is already prone to rollovers under certain conditions.
But how's a driver to stay safe? SUV rollovers happen more commonly than rollovers in other vehicles because, essentially, SUVs are top heavy.
There's nothing you can really do to change that, short of not buying an SUV, but there are tips you can use to stay safe from SUV rollover no matter what kind of vehicle you drive. Take these tips to heart, they could very well save your life.
1. You can avoid SUV rollovers by choosing a smart SUV. Know what you're buying before you buy it! Check out consumer reports, guides, and rollover ratings. In general, SUV rollovers are most likely to happen with vehicles that are tall and skinny. The best SUVs to buy when you're hoping to prevent rollover are the ones that have a father distance between the tires in the back.
2. The second tip, which you cannot overlook, is to drive your SUV "like an SUV". If you're used to driving a car, or even a truck or van, it is tricky to jump into an SUV and take off. You can't take curves as quickly in an SUV. If you try, rollover is likely. Before you speed down the highway, take a few days or weeks to learn the feel of your SUV's steering, brakes, acceleration, and so on.
3. When dealing with an SUV, drive safely. This is, of course, the best tip to use when driving anything, but it is important to note that most SUV rollovers only happen when the SUV goes off of the main road. If you're chatting on your cell phone, doing your makeup in the car, or tending to yelling children in the backseat, it is much more likely that you'll run off of the road, where you'll hit a ditch, curb, bump, or obstacle and be thrown head over heels.
4. To go hand-in-hand with the last tip, drive according to the road conditions. SUV rollovers are more likely on rural roads, simply because potholes are more common. If you're driving on a dirt road or road that rarely gets repaired after the winter, having an SUV can prevent you from sticking in the mud, but at the same time, a pothole can cause you to become off balance and, in effect cause an SUV rollover.
Remember that driving for the road conditions also includes the weather. If it's raining, snowing, or foggy, slow down.
5. Avoid panicking when steering. The common response to losing control is to over-steer in attempts to regain control. Don't panic and fall into this trap! You'll only make matters much worse. Instead, grab the wheel firmly and try to keep the vehicle going in a straight path, as you pump the brakes to slow.
When you panic and steer sharply, it has the same effects of going around a turn too quickly, and SUV rollovers are common.
6. Keep your car in tip-top shape if you want to avoid SUV rollover. Most importantly, check your tire pressure. If one tire is running low on air, this will not only cause efficiency problems, but will also make your SUV be prone to rollover.
Keep in mind also that ESC systems are now available to upgrade your SUV. This kind of a system monitors your vehicle and your movements to prevent rollover. If you carry things in your SUV, make sure that these things are distributed evenly according to weight. Centrifugal force plays a huge roll in SUV rollovers, so check your loaded items often.
7. Wear your seatbelt. Okay, this isn't exactly a way to prevent SUV rollovers, but it is a way to prevent death if your SUV should happen to rollover, for whatever reason. More fatalities occur because the driver or passenger was thrown completely or partially out of the SUV as it rolled, and reports show that buckling up can reduce your risk of death when in an SUV rollover by up to 75%.
Be safe, be smart, and if you do happen to become involved with an SUV rollover, which can happen to even the best drivers, contact a lawyer to learn about your legal rights.

Your Must Know Guide To Vacuum Cleaners Today

The quality and features of any vacuum cleaner is reflected in the price of the unit. Upright vacuum cleaners overall are less expensive than canister vacuum cleaners. Researching the power, suction and edge cleaning abilities of a vacuum cleaner to make sure that it'll perform at the level you need, is very important.
A good vacuum cleaner should cost nothing to maintain. If you have lots of flooring to vacuum you'll want a model with floor attachments that use brushes or an upright vacuum with metal bottom plates. Many bagged models include a full bag indicator light to help users remember to change the bag.
Bagless models use a series of filters to trap dirt in a dust cup while allowing air to pass through the machine however, they can be very messy to empty. Keep in mind vacuums will have a wide range of options and features to choose from some have features like nozzles, extended cords and bright colors that add to the price. Look into the lightweight options to find vacuum cleaners that'll be easier to push, carry, and store.
Find out how much common replacement parts will cost. The lower priced upright vacuum cleaner may or may not include manual adjustment for the height of the carpet. In the lower-end of uprights you will find a few models that have an additional feature, like bagless models or models with bags and a full bag indicator light.
Lower end uprights may have headlamps and/or bumper protection for your furniture. Check out the manufacturer's warranty for the new vacuum, and if your place of purchase will extend the warranty. Make sure the machine feels comfortable.
Try assembling and taking apart the attachments before you buy. Some canister vacuum cleaners do offer HEPA filtration. Higher priced uprights have a wider cleaning path, possibly dirt sensors, and some will be self-propelled they may have pre-motor filters to protect the motor from damage too.
Canister vacuums range in price anywhere from $150 to $1500. It's important to find out exactly what kind of maintenance your new vacuum cleaner will need. Do you really need a deluxe model?
A self-propelled vacuum cleaner may sound great, but they're actually very heavy to lift. It'll cost more buying a unit with a bag because you'll be buying bags ongoing. You may want to find a canister vacuum cleaner with wheels that won't scuff or damage your floors.
HEPA-like or HEPA type filters may only capture only 85 to 90 percent of particles and that percent can fall even lower for particles of 1 micron and below, unlike the true or absolute HEPA filters. There are two different categories of HEPA filters that can make understanding the abilities of your filter confusing. Make sure you get a good feel for the vacuum, its handle and accessories so you know if you can handle it if you have any disabilities or physical problems. Get a unit with a good filtration system and protect your lungs and overall health.
You want to get rid of as much dirt, dust, mold spores, fungus, bacteria, dust mites and allergens as possible. HEPA is an acronym for "high efficiency particulate air". HEPA is a type of filter that can trap a large amount of very small particles that other vacuum cleaners recirculate back into the air of your home.
Take time to do your research, the same way you would for any major purchase and buying a vacuum cleaner won't be difficult. A quality vacuum cleaner can be an excellent investment if you do your homework. Choose a vacuum with the features you want without the extras you don't need.

SUV Rollover Accidents - What to Know Before Buying an SUV

SUVs - Sport Utility Vehicles - are more popular than ever. Ownership of SUVs increased dramatically by 250% in the United States from 1995 to 2002 as many people, especially families, were seduced into buying an SUV partly in the belief that bigger meant safer. If you are thinking of buying an SUV, there is good news and bad news as far as safety is concerned. In general an SUV is more than twice as likely to roll over in an accident as a car. Children are especially at risk, they are three times more likely to be injured in an SUV rollover accident than if they were in a car.
And contrary to popular belief, the more weight that an SUV carries, the higher the chance of an accident. Most SUVs are designed - and owners are encouraged - to carry extra weight in the form of extra passengers and cargo, whether it is on the road or off the road.
One way to minimize the risk of a rollover if you do drive an SUV is to drive with less weight. In 2004 (the most recent year with data available) rollover accidents killed just over 10,000 people in the United States. Rollovers are actually rare, less than 3% of all car crashes, but they are responsible for around 30% of all traffic related fatalities. However, rollovers are particularly serious types of accident as they often result in head injuries, or passengers being thrown from vehicle
The good news is that SUVs are currently safer than ever, a trend that seems certain to continue. An increasing number of SUVs are being made with electronic stability control which dramatically decreases the chance of an accident.
This may become a requirement in the next few years. Manufacturers are also making more so-called car-based SUVs - vehicles that combine the appearance of a car and an SUV. These usually ride closer to the ground than regular SUVs and are therefore significantly safer. And at least fifteen major car manufacturers have agreed that by 2009, all their SUVs would be built lower to the ground, saving an estimated 600 to 800 lives every year.
Other safety features are being introduced. Newer SUVs now have rollover air bags, designed specifically to protect passengers from injury during a rollover. A sensing device will detect a rollover and trigger an airbag to inflate, usually on the side of the vehicle, at the same time tightening the seat belts.
If you are still interested in an SUV, choose your model carefully. Cost, features, and gas mileage will all influence your purchase, but safety should also play an important part in deciding which make and model to buy. Many automotive web sites offer unbiased reviews of SUVs and their safety rating.
And give some thought as to whether you really need an SUV, statistics show that fewer than 5% of owners will actually use their SUV off the road. A car or minivan may suit your needs just as well, and will usually cost less. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published rankings for 2006 which show which SUVs are most and least likely to rollover in an accident.
The figures are based on the chances of a rollover in a single vehicle accident, they don't take in to account multi-vehicle accidents. The figures also don't take into account what causes the accident in the first place.
The least likely models to rollover are the Chevrolet HHR, Ford Freestyle and Chrysler Pacifica. The models most likely to rollover are the Nissan Xterra and the Chevrolet Avalanche along with several other models hovering just behind these two as far as the rankings are concerned.
Car manufacturers are understandably concerned with these rankings, the cost in financial terms and buyer confidence is enormous. There have been a spate of vehicle recalls over the last few years one of the most far-reaching was by Ford in 2003, recalling almost 1.7 million Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers. And Toyota recalled almost a million SUVs in 2005 because of a defect that could possibly affect the ability to steer the vehicle.
So before you buy your next SUV, do a little research. It may just save your life if you are involved in an accident.

If Failure Is A Dirty Word - It Pays To Know How To Clean It Up!

The flip side of the success coin is failure. In our culture, failure has almost become a taboo subject - and yet failure simply means lack of success. Learning from failure to gain the success you want isn't magic - it's called planning. In writing this is crucial, so let's have a look at some pointers.
Planning is the key to success in many walks of life and in most careers and writing is no exception. If you are planning who to write for, have the correct target market, write the correct sort of material for that market and most importantly NEVER GIVE UP - then eventually (maybe the next story?) you WILL make the breakthrough!
Motivation of the self is not easy - I wouldn't insult your intelligence by pretending it is. This is one reason I advocate going to a good writer's group - the support you receive may well make all the difference between becoming a published writer and throwing in the towel in disgust!
Surveys have shown that over 70% of people questioned have put 'writing a book' in their all-time top ten of things to do in life. What they don't show is how to go about doing it! Look at this way Learning to drive a car is quite an achievement - being in charge of and responsible for over a ton of metal on the move is a serious busines
Yet millions of people can drive cars, despite the learning curve that it involves - so why can't they write that longed-for book? The answer lies in one word tuition. Someone actually teaches you to drive that car - how it goes, how it stops, how to make a left turn, when it's safe to overtake - the list goes on and on. In fact, learning to drive is SO difficult that the real surprise is that so many people manage to do it at all!
So where do you find these tutors? Driving instructors fall out of the trees everywhere you look - but who is going to teach you how to write your book?
Above I mentioned writer's groups. Belonging to a good one, where members aid each other and help is always at hand, is pure gold. But what about the times you can't attend, or it's not group night? There you sit despondent and demotivated, realising that writing can be a very lonely job indeed. Maybe you turn to a 'how-to' book - maybe you look inside yourself for inspiration.
The point is that if your work is planned from start to finish you should never, ever dry up. So-called 'writer's block' usually occurs during the writing of a book because you have hit a point where the plot is falling apart (due to lack of planning) and your back is against the wall with nowhere to go.
If, however, you plan your work in advance this won't happen as all the bugs get ironed out of your story before you actually write it. You have probably heard the old mantra 'fail to plan, plan to fail'? Well my mantra is 'plan your finish and finish your plan'!
It really is that straightforward. Not easy - very few things that are worthwhile are easy - but achievable. Also, when you have an end in sight it's so much easier writing your story - after all, you know just how close you are at any given time to that cliffhanger ending! So planning is the the key to overcoming failure - it unlocks the door to good practice in writing your story and lets you get on with the writing without having to worry about the plotting - because you did that already!
In summary, always treat failure - that rejected story for instance - as an opportunity to question your working methods. Did you indeed write the correct sort of story for your potential readers? Did you plan everything out about your story before you started writing? If you didn't do either of these - put it right next time and the chances are far higher of that acceptance letter hitting your doormat!

5 Tips For Selling Your Home For The Maximum Value

If you're looking to sell your home in the near future, you want to get the absolute maximum value possible on the sale. That's no surprise, but often homeowners end up settling for less than they could have sold their house for if they had only made a few minor repairs and adjustments. What can you do to ensure you're not settling for less? Follow these simple steps to get your home ready for its appraisal and showing, and you could have several thousand dollars more in your pocket than you previously imagined!
1) Consider Your Home's Location
The location of your home will actually have a significant impact on the value of your house, and will dictate approximately how high or low your initial asking price should be. If there's an empty lot next door, find out if there are any plans to develop that space ' if stores or an office building are going in, your home's value will be reduced. However, if it's going to be turned into a park area or green space, it will be in your best interest and your property value will increase.
2) Consider The Housing Market
Is the housing market in your area a buyer's market or a seller's market? If homes in your area aren't selling as quickly as you like, you may be at a disadvantage. You'll be competing with other resellers and developers for fewer buyers, which means that you'll probably end up lowering your asking price in order to make the sale. However, if the market is hot, you should be able to get close to the price you want since houses are in high demand. If you can, wait until the market has turned in your favor, and then list your home. It's a fine line to balance, but if you keep a close eye on things, your Realtor should be able to help you out to make sure you list at the best time.
After you've done these few external steps, it's time to look inward ' take some time to carry out these small adjustments inside your home, and watch the value increase!
3) Repair Everything You Can
It may seem like common sense, but you'd be surprised how many homeowners forget the big impact a little coat of paint can have. If you walk into a home and see scratches on the wall, cracks in the floor tiles, and water marks on the ceiling, it won't matter how beautiful the rest of the home is, because you're going to spend the whole time wondering what else is wrong with the place! Fixing the big things and the little things will make your home look well-maintained and inviting. Since a lot of your home's value is based on perception, you want potential buyers to perceive your house as a place that's worth paying more money for.
4) Make Additions
If it's in your best interest ' and you can find this out from a Realtor or appraising specialist ' add space to your home. The garage, porch and patio are not included in the square footage listing for your home, so if you can add even one more bedroom and a small washroom, it could increase your home's value by anywhere from ten to fifty thousand dollars. You do need to make sure that you won't spend more on the additions than you'll gain back though, as you don't want to find yourself taking a net loss down the line. Another easy addition to make that can significantly increase you home's value is a hot tub! A permanently installed hot tub is considered part of the full property area, and will allow you to start your home at a higher asking price.
5) Do A Little Yard Work
Again, value is based on perception, and if both the outside and the inside of your home are well-maintained, you're going to be able to ask for more money and have more traffic coming through your home. A few hundred dollars spent on landscaping will actually increase the traffic in your home by 200-500% - which could result in a bidding war over your home, if more people are interested in buying. What better way to get the maximum value than through a bidding war between buyers? Keep your grass cut, gardens tidy, your doors and windows fully painted and cleaned, and polish any metal on your door, railings, or gate.

Video Games and Your Child: Tips For Parents

Quite often, parents will take a negative attitude toward video games without taking the time to inform themselves of the games their children are playing, or even bothering to learn what video games ratings actually mean. Here are a few tips to help you stay game-savvy when it comes to your child and video games
1) Talk to Your Kids
If you don't understand the games your kids are playing, don't rag on their self-esteem by telling them it's stupid and a waste of time try sitting down while they're playing and ask them what they like about the game, and who their favorite characters are. They'll be more likely to respect your serious opinions on certain games if you show a respect for the things they enjoy.
2) Learn the Ratings
Instead of waiting for your child to bring home a game rated 18+ and yelling at her to get rid of it, learn what the video game rating system is beforehand and discuss it with your child. Let her know that it isn't appropriate for a 12-year-old to play a game made for adults. By having this discussion ahead of time, you'll set the boundaries and avoid a screaming match down the road.
3) Keep the Games Public
Don't let your kids play their video games in their bedrooms! Instead, set up the game system in a public room. This lets you monitor their playing time, ensuring they don't spend all day in front of a screen, while also allowing you to easily get involved in the game and make sure the content is appropriate. Don't hover, but keep an eye on things!
4) Monitor Playing Time
Video games have become such an integral part of children's social lives that banning video games might actually hurt your child's potential friendships. Many games have also been shown to stimulate imagination and help problem-solving skills, which can be highly beneficial in the long run! Regardless of what your child is playing, however, you should set a daily time limit to ensure a healthy balance of activities within the home.
Following these simple, common-sense tips will not only help you as a parent to become more involved in your child's life, but he'll also have a greater sense of respect for you and your opinions. And if you can bring yourself to try playing, it's a great way to spend some bonding time together! Educating yourself as a parent on video games is important so you can be the parent your child needs.

True Romance for Couples with Kids: 10 Inexpensive Ideas

Anyone can splurge on a formal dinner or a pricey bottle of perfume, but it takes creativity, forethought, and time to be truly romantic.
The key lies in personalizing your celebration. Here are ten ideas to fuel your own creativity
1. Empty a box of chocolates. Then cut out 50 to 100 hearts from lace doilies, construction paper, or fabric. On each cutout, record something about him that you love. Be specific "The way you smell when you come to bed at night," "The way you take care of me when I am sick," "Your recipe for pancakes," etcetera.
Fold the cutouts, place them in the chocolate box, and top with a red satin bow.
The time you spend coming up with these ideas will contribute to your own romantic mood, and what he thinks is a plain box of chocolates will be a gift he will keep close to his heart forever. And you can add to the box on Valentines Day, his birthday, your anniversary, and other holidays throughout the year.
2. Build a romantic fire. Before the kids go to bed, have fun roasting marshmallows. After their lights are out, host your own indoor picnic, complete with a bottle of wine and
chocolate covered strawberries.
3. Recreate your first date together. What were you wearing? Where did you go? Do you remember what you talked about? Spend the evening reminiscing and reflecting on how far you have come as a couple.
4. Spoon all night.
5. Choose a book in which you are both interested, fiction or nonfiction. Read a new chapter each night before bed. This cozy tradition will allow you to spend some quality time together and often makes for thought provoking breakfast conversations.
6. Make a tape of the songs special to your relationship. Include "your song," songs from your wedding, songs from favorite movies. Add a personal voice dedication and leave it in his briefcase, Walkman, or car stereo.
7. Turn off the TV.
8. Kidnap your husband. Arrange for a babysitter for a few hours (or a few days.) A friend of mine had a lot of success with this one. She knew her husband had always wanted to get married in Vegas, but he had agreed to a large, formal ceremony hosted by her family. So, after they had been married 10 years, she surprised him at work with a packed suitcase. They caught an evening flight and renewed their vows before an Elvis impersonator in a Vegas chapel. Years later, they are still talking about it.
9. This one requires a babysitter, too. The next time you are visiting your parents or inlaws, leave the kids with their grandparents and travel to another town, where no one will recognize you. Check into a hotel or B&B. Dress like another woman. Act like another woman. It is fun to slip into another persona from time to time.
10. Have a scavenger hunt. Write a few poems, wrap candy kisses inside, and hide them around the house. Each poem should be a clue to finding the next one. Make sure the final clue lands your man someplace you want to end up for the entire evening. A romance package, including a bottle of champagne and new lingerie, is a nice touch.
Create some romantic memories today not with your pocketbook, but with your imagination.

Something Good Is About To Happen

The dread I felt encompassed my thoughts and feelings. My energy stopped flowing and immediately I felt my soul complain once again that nothing was ever going my way. Depression took control of my body and reminded me of everything I did for others and how I was never repaid.
Suddenly, a Holy Spirit thought came to my mind with these words. "Something good is about to happen." An energy sparked and ignited my mind into the possibilities of what good thing was about to take place. I was no longer feeling rejected and alone. I was anticipating good fortune and the expectancy changed my whole outlook on life.
When I was a mother with young children going through a custody fight with my ex-husband, I would pray that God would just take all of my feelings away. During that time of my life I experienced losing the love, respect, and support of everyone I had ever known.
It was easy to feel depressed, because of all the loss I suffered. It was easy to want to throw the whole world away and run anywhere, but here. Instead, God gave me the strength to stand my ground and fight back. I refused to allow people's prejudice to prevent me from being a mother to my children. I wouldn't allow myself the luxury of being depressed.
This is the way it is in every one's life, we will face suffering from death, divorce, sickness and tragedies of all kinds. From these experiences we must grow! We must let go of the bad things we are experiencing and trust that God has a plan for our live
1 Thessalonians 3 3&4, "so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for them. In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know."
Following God in a wicked and deprived world means we must embrace each trial we face with determination. We cannot give into our feelings of hopelessness or we will lose our ability to survive. Understanding the principles of the game of life produces in us the hope we need to keep going forward no matter what happen
Making our minds focus on good things, instead of bad things, helps us to let go of fear and fight! Hope helps us to survive the death of a loved one. Hope makes us believe that something good is about to happen!
1Thessalonians 4 13&14, "Our brothers, we want you to know the truth about those who have died, so that you will not be sad, as are those who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in him."
We must never give up and allow Satan to persuade us to feel rejected and abandoned because we are all alone. We must place our faith in God and conquer fear by going forward no matter what happens to us in life. We must read our bible and pray at all times giving praise with a thankful heart, even when something bad is happening.
If we face an illness and our prayers are not answered for that sickness, we must place this weakness in God's hands. Make your mind focus on the goodness and protection of God. This way you will endure a trial of sickness without allowing Satan the satisfaction that he has made you feel completely hopeless and depressed.
Remember when we are in a life game, Satan will attack our emotions, our physical bodies, and the circumstances surrounding our life. We are here to defeat Satan through patiently enduring trials with hope and faith that God will see us through.
Praising God during this time of trial will make you feel revitalized even when your body is weak! Resist the devil and he will flee! The Holy Spirit will embrace your pain stricken body and give you the strength to patiently endure.
2 Corinthians 12 7-10, "But to keep me from being puffed up with pride because of the many wonderful things I saw, I was given a painful physical ailment, which acts as Satan's messenger to beat me and to keep me from being proud. Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away. But his answer was 'My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.' I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ's power over me. I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Death, disease, and illnesses of all kinds normally come to people in a world that is a teaching world. We mustn't allow Satan to make us say "why God why". We must accept the trial we have been given and depend on God to see us through and He will do it!
When a Christian goes through an illness, they become examples to unbelievers of how God can give you the strength to endure. Their belief and trust in God is noted by patients, doctors, nurses, and visitors to the hospital, of how you can have hope and joy through a difficult disease.
1 Peter 41&2, "Since Christ suffered physically, you too must strengthen yourselves with the same way of thinking that he had because whoever suffers physically is no longer involved with sin. From now on, then, you must live the rest of your earthly lives controlled by God's will and not by human desires."
Many theologians state that a sickness is a punishment from God for sin, but Peter proclaims a secret truth. Illnesses can be a result of God wanting to teach a person something new. It has nothing to do with sin, it has everything to do with a person's destiny.
Everything we go through has a spiritual purpose that is meant for our growth. This concept is hard to imagine when we are going through the trial, but after the period of illness has run its course, we can look back and see what we learned.
The words "Something Good Is About To Happen" burst into my thoughts giving me a whole new way to look at the circumstances surrounding my newest trial. It helped me to focus on God and His purpose for my life. It helped me to stop giving into negative thinking and it allowed love to once again flow.
We are in a life game of good versus evil. With this is mind anything that makes us feel sorry for ourselves is not God, it is Satan. Satan wants to keep us from being strong Christian examples to unbelievers. Satan wants to stop us from defeating the evil things that normally come to people and to make us place blame on God. Satan's goal is to make all Christians everywhere stop loving and to give up and die!
God wants us to stay positive and to stand our ground, while we face trials of all kinds. We are to reflect love, hope, patience, and most of all we are to Praise God, who found us worthy to suffer pain. When we praise God we defeat Satan's evil plan and we feel better!
Philippians 48&9, "In conclusion, my brothers, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable. Put into practice what you have learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you."
Something good is about to happen in your life. Think positive and you will win your game of life for God. God's peace that surpasses all understanding will fill your being and give you hope.

The Aftermath of Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

Nursing home abuse is a problem that stems from the overworked staff of nursing homes all across the country. Nurses with too many patients to handle are worn to the breaking point and beyond, often burning out and quitting, leaving nursing homes even shorter staffed. Those nurses that remain are often tired, overworked, and underpaid. None of this excuses neglect in nursing homes, but it certainly does seem to cause it in many cases.
By the time our elderly relatives are put into nursing homes, they are unable to care for themselves in even the most basic of ways. Many of them need help just to get out of bed or turn over, not to mention being fed, bathed, and taken to the bathroom. In addition to being much heavier than infants requiring the same kind of care, our elderly relatives are also often moodier, fully knowing what they used to be capable of and angry at the world for taking it away from them with time.
They become a constant challenge for nursing home staffers, and the constant strain of even the happiest nursing home residents can become a breaking point for nursing home nurses and doctors.
When this point is reached, these nurses or doctors can become a danger to our elderly relatives, either neglecting their care intentionally or through lack of time to get everything done. Some even become abusers, intentionally inflicting harm on our loved ones. The aftermath of abuse like this is terrible, with families being torn apart by guilt and horror at the mistreatment of a loved one.
In some cases, this mistreatment can lead to the death of the very loved ones that we were hoping to protect by placing them in the care of professionals. The very last thing that any of us wants to hear is that our loved one has passed away in a nursing home. It is even worse to hear that they had died of something that would have been entirely preventable with proper care.
Many nursing home patients in these places develop bed sores from lying in one position for too long. Others may get cuts or scrapes that become infected, and these infections are sometimes not noticed or properly cared for. Residents of nursing homes may have bandages that are infrequently changed or might become injured while trying to move about and be left for extended periods of time by nurses and doctors who are too busy or tired to do a routine check.
This kind of neglect is the sad result of understaffed nursing homes, and should not be treated as acceptable in any way. Our loved ones have been made to suffer, and the only way to make things better for others is to ensure that the nursing homes are punished for their budget saving negligence.
A nursing home abuse lawyer can help you to bring about this justice in court by filing a civil suit against the nursing home owners or management who were responsible for the poor level of care that your loved one was forced to endure at their hands. You will be able to take them to task for their treatment of their elderly patients and help to ensure that no one else is treated this way again.
Hopefully you will still have your relatives with you to go through this battle, damaged by their terrible experience but alive and recovering from the damage to their body and spirit. A nursing home lawyer will help you to get the money that you need to continue their care, both medical and emotional.
These lawyers will help you and your family by forcing the nursing homes to pay for the suffering that they have caused. They will get you the money that you need to treat whatever injuries that your loved one sustained and to place them in a home with better care in the future.
If your relative's passing was the event that led you to discover the neglectful ways of the nursing home, then a nursing home abuse and neglect lawyer will work with you to get you and your family the money for your suffering that will help you be able to financially move on with your lives.
It is a terrible thing, to see a helpless elderly person become the victim of abuse or neglect, but it happens every day. A nursing home abuse lawyer will try to help you ensure that it doesn't happen again.

Good News For Skin Care Natural Treatments

It's easy to treat dry skin cheaply, simply, naturally, and effectively at home. The use of natural or synthetic cosmetics to cover the appearance of the face and condition of the skin, like control of pores and covering blackhead, is common among many cultures.
Skin contains hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, apocrine glands and blood vessels. Our skin also receives less blood flow and lower gland activity than the other organs in our body. The dermis is tightly connected to the epidermis by a basement membrane.
Dry skin can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin A, systemic illness, overexposure to sunlight or some medications. Skin gets exposed to the elements, especially in winter, causing it to become drier. When the skin loses moisture it may crack and peel, or become irritated and inflamed.
Certain drugs, including diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines, can contribute to dry skin conditions check with your pharmacist or doctor and read the drug insert - you can get one from your pharmacist. Dry skin can be due to a genetic condition but it's not common. Dry skin can also be a sign of an underactive thyroid.
Eating fruits that are red or orange in color will help improve you skin health and help to prevent acne. I can't stress enough the importance of drinking plenty of pure, filtered water - a minimum of a quart a day. Drink freshly extracted carrot juice, if you can, every day carrot juice is an excellent cleanser for the liver, great for the skin and contains a great deal of nutrients, all beneficial for dry skin, eczema, acne, zits, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and other breakouts.
Try using a humidifier if the air is dry and you have a severe skin condition. Use bath oils and moisturizers, or better yet, coconut oil, daily. Keep baths or showers short using warm, never hot water.
I buy coconut oil by the gallon it's cheaper for a whole gallon of coconut oil than a small jar of department store, name-brand moisturizer. When you buy coconut oil, make sure you get the kind that hasn't been refined, processed and deodorized. Use a thin layer of coconut oil under your make-up, if you wear it, to moisturize and soften your skin throughout the day.
Coconut oil is very inexpensive - a great, cheap home remedy for all skin conditions. Coconut oil is the best healing, soothing, and moisturizing treatment I've found for dry skin in fact all types of skin conditions, skin eruptions, pimples, acne, milia, irritations, cuts, burns, fungus, etc.
Many skin conditions can be converted into clear, healthy skin by using natural home remedies. The skin must be regularly cleaned or it'll become cracked or inflamed.
Continue using coconut oil and you'll see the benefits in good, clear skin, free of dryness and other skin conditions. If nothing seems to work it might be more than dry skin, so you should see your doctor. Call your skin doctor if dryness and itching are preventing you from sleeping.

A Safer SUV: Preventing Rollover

People are afraid to fly, afraid to play extreme sports, and afraid to bungee jump, and yet they jump into their vehicles without batting an eyelash. Unfortunately, more deaths are contributed to motor vehicle crashes than almost any other health or accident cause.
That doesn't mean you have to stop driving, but what it does mean is that you should take extra precautions to stay safe while on the road, for your sake and for the sake of other drivers. For SUV owners, this means taking positive steps toward preventing SUV rollovers.
SUV rollovers are commonly caused by driving off of the regular road and hitting a ditch, bump, or obstacle, which causes the SUV to flip. However, rollover also can happen when traveling around curves too quickly over in adverse conditions. You can look at your SUV's official rollover report to learn about the safety of your specific vehicle.
In general, a lower center of gravity is preferred, because it means that your SUV is less top-heavy and more likely to stay upright when going around curves. You can consider this on the most basic level by simply comparing your SUV to other SUVs on the market. How far apart are the back wheels and how proportionate is the top half to the bottom half? The father apart the tires and the heavier the bottom half in relation to the top, the safer your SUV will be when it comes to rollover.
If safety is important to you and your family, but you just don't want to give up your top-heavy SUV, you can purchase an ESC (Electronic Stability Control). These devices can greatly reduce your risk of SUV rollovers while traveling in your SUV, and on top of that, it's a pretty cool new gadget to test out in your car!

The ESC using an electronic sensory system to actually detect when you're going to lose control of your SUV. You don't even have to do anything. The ESC will automatically step in and do whatever it needs to do to help your vehicle stay in control. A number of different studies have tested the ESC, and all have concluded that this system can help to save lives, so this product is truly in the industry to save. Unless you absolutely have no way of paying for it, get an ESC for your SUV to prevent SUV rollovers and possibly save lives.
How could an electronic device possible control your vehicle to prevent SUV rollovers? After you install it in your car, the microcomputer will monitor your speed, throttle position, cylinder pressure, acceleration, braking, steering wheel angle, and more. It basically compares what you are trying to do with what the vehicle is actually doing.
For example, it can notice that your breaking and prevent the tires from locking up. How does this help with rollover? The computer can sense when your wheels on one side are beginning to lift and it can use single-tire braking and over methods to help shift weight to keep your SUV stable.
Of course, no system is fool-proof, and the ESC is not a replacement for common sense when you're driving your SUV. The next time you purchase a vehicle, it's a good idea to get an ESC - they're called different things with different makers, so you may see the names StabiliTrak, AdvanceTrac, Vehicle Dynamics Control, and Precision Control System, among other things. However, take SUV rollover prevention into your own hands as well for the safest driving experience possible.
The vast majority of SUV rollovers don't happen when traveling about curves too fast they happen when you lose control and drive off of the normal road. Off-road, there are things like curbs, ditches, tree roots, and other kinds of bumps that can catch a wheel and spend you flying head over heels. Your ESC system, no matter how well it works, can prevent this type of thing from happening.
Stay safe when driving and you'll go a long way in preventing SUV rollovers. Stay off of your cell phone unless its and emergency, don't eat or play with the radio while driving, and generally keep your attention focused on the road.
Remember, you have to watch out for not only yourself, but other drivers as well, so reaction is as important as personal action. Be informed about vehicular safety and the new products on the market, like the ESC, and with a little common sense, you should be able to avoid all SUV rollover accidents.

Choosing Great Toys For Your 6 Year Old

When choosing toys for your six year old, it is important that you select toys that are age appropriate as well as safe. Six year old children are entering elementary school and have advanced beyond many preschool activities. For example, when it comes to arts and crafts, a 6 year old may feel comfortable using a pair of scissors and it is up to the parent to decide how much supervision they will give the child. However, it is recommended that you always supervise children when using scissors or other sharp objects, but the point is that a six year old is in fact capable of using scissors by themselve
The advancement in a six year old's motor skills enable them to enjoy many other toys that they previously couldn't experience. Here are some great guidelines to use when choosing toys for 6 year old
First, if you are choosing arts and craft products, be sure that the toys are non-toxic. Six year olds are developing their writing technique and the use of crayons, scissor, and glue greatly develops their motor skills and improves their writing.
You may also find that building blocks are very appropriate for the six year old child. Whether these are wooden blocks, Lincoln logs, or legos children love to build with these blocks and their accessorie
Since reading, writing, and phonics skills are being introduced to the 6 year old, educational games such as Sing, Spell, Read, and Write are a good choice. You may also discover that in addition to these types of educational toys, memory and sequencing games are also greatly beneficial.
Imaginative play is also a very important part of the six year old's overall development. You can enhance your child's creative development by encouraging them to play with puppets. A puppet theater is a great addition to ensure that your child has a wonderful time and is lost in their imaginative world.
Age appropriate puzzles are also an excellent choice for the 6 year old child. You can select puzzles by their age level and as your child advances in their skills, move on to more complex puzzles. Puzzles are also a great way to introduce educational concepts in a fun manner.
Some other popular choices for toys for the six year old child include the classic toys, Slinky, the games Candyland and Chutes and Ladders, Lace up cards, dress up toys, doll houses, erector sets, tool sets, and the game Pick Up Sticks.

How To Choose The Right Furniture For Your Home

So, you've found the perfect house, the boxes are moved in, and you've begun to unpack. That was the easy part! Now comes the tricky task of purchasing the right furniture to complement your home. With so many styles, designs, and stores to choose from, how can you know where to start?
First, you'll need to create a plan for yourself ' not just a room plan, but some basic ideas of what colors you like, what styles you absolutely can't stand, and how much money you're willing to spend on new furniture. Budgeting is extremely important, because it will help you ensure that you can afford all the pieces you need without spending too much on any one item.
When you head to the store, try to focus on choosing furniture for one room at a time. Think about the size of the room you're trying to furnish, and consider that since showrooms tend to be large, that great sofa you've just fallen in love with might not be as small as it looks. Bring a tape measure when you go, and check specific measurements for each piece of furniture as you consider it.
At the same time, do your best to bring a sketched-in floor plan of the room you're choosing furniture for, and then apply the measurements for each piece of potential furniture to the floor plan. Is the sofa small enough for a few people to fit on, while not blocking any doorways or vents? Can that coffee table actually fit in the niche next to the door? Also, don't forget to mark in where the windows are on your plan, both width and height. That recliner might fit in the floor space, but it's no good if it blocks half of your main window!
With floor plan in hand, design plan in mind, and tape measure in your pocket, you're ready to seriously consider what pieces of furniture you want to add to your home. A good rule of thumb here is don't rush it. Often, homeowners feel pressured or rushed into making a purchase by salespeople, so it might be in your and their best interest to let the salesperson know that you want some time alone while you look around. Then, when you're ready to ask questions or talk about prices, you can approach them on your own terms.
Most salespeople are very knowledgeable and helpful, and will be able to answer your questions honestly. They can steer you in the right direction if you get stuck, but any final decision you make needs to be yours and yours alone. Of course, if they're willing to offer you a great combination deal on some pieces you like, it certainly wouldn't hurt to consider it!
When thinking about colors and patterns on furniture, think about how long you plan to keep things like sofas and matching chairs. Patterned furniture can sometimes become tiresome or look outdated a few years down the line, while solid colors tend to be more timeless and versatile. With solid colors, you can spruce up the decoration by new adding pillows or throw blankets every so often, while patterns allow for less altering in mood and ambiance of the room. However, if you're looking to tie an entire room together with a specific pattern theme, a patterned sofa and chair set may be just the thing you're looking for.
With the proliferation of furniture stores available to choose from today, you might also think about heading in the direction of bargain stores. If this is the case, consider how much use each piece of furniture will get, and try not to sacrifice quality for those pieces that will have a lot of traffic. You don't want to end up replacing things like a kitchen table and chairs every few years, as that can become quite costly. Instead, choose solid, sturdy pieces for high-use areas of the home ' it will save you money and hassle in the long run.

SUV Rollover Accident Attorneys

If you or someone in your family has suffered injury or death due to an accident in your sport utility vehicle, consulting with an SUV rollover accident attorney can be a good way to ensure proper compensation for the accident is procured. Your SUV rollover accident could be the result of faulty engineering of the vehicle or of tires whose propensity for blowout caused the incident. Before trying to tackle a car or tire manufacturer on your own, consulting an attorney will protect your interest
SUV rollover accident attorneys are experienced in working with families who have been affected by injury or death to ensure that after-accident procedures are handled appropriately. Before making an appointment for your first consultation, ensure that you have gathered all information pertinent to the accident, and also given thought to the end result you expect to achieve.
The information you will need to gather prior to your consultation will include the accident report written out by local police, any estimates written on your vehicle by qualified repair shops, any hospital paperwork documenting the extent of injuries or exact cause of death, and any witness statements that may have been recorded at the scene.
If speed or weather conditions played a role in the accident, the attorney will need to be apprised of that as well, so as to appropriately handle that circumstance when seeking to simultaneously prove that the car or tire manufacturer is at least partially liable for the accident.
If you are seeking to be compensated for specific damages caused to your vehicle as a result of an SUV rollover accident, you will need to have exact estimates performed for replacement cost. If the vehicle is totaled as a result of the accident, the estimate will need to include the current value of the vehicle, rather than the value of replacement parts.
Compensatory damages can often be sought out of court, as large car and tire manufacturers would prefer to come to a settlement in most instances rather than face a lengthy or embarrassing trial in court. Compensatory damages sought can also include the costs of any accident-related injuries treated at the hospital.
There is also another type of damages you can seek punitive damages. Punitive damages are a way to "punish" an entity which has caused harm. Punitive damages go far above and beyond compensating for actual damages, and are often calculated based on suffering caused by the accident, loss of use, lost income, and any other current or future losses that may be a result of your accident.
Your SUV rollover accident attorney can help you to determine if punitive damages are appropriate in the case of your specific circumstances, and if appropriate, what a fair amount would be to request.
In cases where punitive damages are sought, manufacturers will sometimes seek to settle out of court again, it is often in their best interest to settle quickly rather than endure a lengthy trial. In some cases, however, manufacturers prefer to go to court in the hopes that they encounter a judge or jury that does not agree with the concept of punitive damages.
Punitive damages can be a very thin wire upon which to walk, on one hand, it is often a necessary check on the power of car and tire manufacturers, so that the point is made that they must take responsibility for losses caused by their products.
On the other hand, the punitive damages that are sought are often beyond believable levels and are so large that some judges and juries cannot fathom awarding such a large amount. Cases are sometimes thrown from court for being frivolous when the remedy being sought is not in line with the loss suffered.
If death has been caused by your accident, your SUV rollover accident attorney will likely urge you to seek a much higher level of punitive damages than if it is a simple injury accident.
Often, levels of punitive damages in this case are determined by the number of years lost income until the person who was killed would have retired, as well as amounts for loss to the person's spouse and children, and also loss of enjoyment or companionship. These calculations can often reach into the millions.
It is always important to keep in mind that judges and juries will often agree with what they see as fair compensation going to court is not a time to be greedy, but to be made whole again through some fashion of compensation after a loss.

How to Deal with an SUV Rollover

SUV rollovers are notoriously dangerous. Thousands of motor vehicles are involved in rollovers every single year, and the unfortunatey thing about that is not only are many of these accidents preventable, but also that once people get into accidents, they have absolutely no idea what to do. If you own an SUV it is important to learn about rollovers so that you can avoid them and, God forbid your SUV does rollover, you know what to do.
SUV rollovers occur because Sport Utility Vehicles have a high center of gravity. Think of a car like a typical Christmas tree and an SUV as an upside down Christmas tree. You'll have to push a lot harder to get the first tree to topple over! To find the safest SUV available, you want to look for an SUV with a larger distance between the back tires and a heavier bottom when compared to the top.
However, the best step to preventing an SUV rollover is to use common sense. Car manufacturers now make electronic systems that can monitor your vehicle's stability and correct problems, but nothing can serve in the place of your good sense. Most SUV roller accidents happen when you accidentally run off the road and your SUV hits a ditch or some kind of obstacle. Therefore, if you pay attention to your driving and slow your speeds, you should be able to prevent most rollovers from ever happening in the first place.
That said, there are certain steps you should take if you are involved in an SUV rollover. Taking these steps can truly help you medically, financially, and legally so that you can make sure you are treated in the best way possible. Because accidents are so frightening, it may be difficult to stay calm and do what you need to do, but if you know the steps beforehand, you have a better chance of not forgetting crucial actions that you need to take.
First and more most, take care of yourself medically. If you are hurt and in no immediate danger, stay put and wait for paramedics to arrive. In some cases, the best thing you can do is to quickly and safely exit the vehicle. If your SUV is still running, turn it off, and if you are upside down, carefully release your seatbelt and crawl out of the door or window. This is especially crucial if you smell gas, because explosions and fire are a main concern.
Call the police. Even if the accident was your fault, and even if you have no insurance coverage, don't try to hide SUV rollovers or any other accidents. If your vehicle rolled over, chance are that someone has already called the police, but it is very important to do so if this hasn't happened.
Think about what happened and always tell the truth. Cooperation is key, and make sure that you are very detailed about the accident so that everything goes into the police report.
Before you leave the scene of the accident, talk to the eyewitnesses, and make sure that they talk to the police officer as well. If possible, take down names and numbers. This kind of information may be paramount to an investigation later.
After you've left, call your doctor to set up an appointment, just in case you have any internal injuries, and notify your insurance company about the SUV rollover. Again, your full cooperation will help you in the long run. Report the accident it's the law.
If you have been injured or if there was another car involved, your final step is to seek legal advice. When SUV rollovers happen, you may be entitled to a settlement. If you were injured in the rollover, it may have been due to a fault in the manufacturing of the vehicle. If another car was involved, the entire accident may not be your fault.
Every single SUV rollover case is different. Seeking legal advice in this situation is important because you may not realize that you are not completely at fault. Even if you are, you have nothing to lose by talking to a lawyer, since most are happy to briefly review your case for free.
Protecting yourself legally when involved with SUV rollovers can help you get the money you need to care for medical injuries and fix your SUV. Of course, when the case is closed, remember to take extra precautions in the future so that you are not involved with another SUV rollover accident. It can happen to anyone, but if you drive safely, it has less of a chance of happening to you.
